Custom Spiral Wound Gaskets

Non-standard sizes, exotic alloys, custom profiles — wound to your spec in our Sydney workshop. 24–48 hour turnaround on standard alloys. Shipped across Australia & New Zealand.

Last updated: April 2026

GritGasket winds custom spiral wound gaskets to any non-standard outer diameter, inner diameter, or full custom profile from our Sydney workshop. Send a flange standard reference, a drawing or DXF, or just an old gasket as a sample — we'll match it and ship in 24–48 hours on standard alloys for Australian and New Zealand customers. Exotic alloys (Inconel, Hastelloy, Monel) and large production runs are quoted on receipt of spec.

A spiral wound gasket isn't a stock part. Every winding starts with the right strip width and thickness to match the flange class and surface finish; the right filler thickness for the compressed seating stress; and the right inner-ring sizing if the duty calls for one. We hold the strip, filler, and ring stock to wind on demand — so a non-catalogue size doesn't add a week to your lead time.

What We Wind

  • Non-standard NPS — outside ASME B16.5 (e.g. DN 350, DN 450, custom 18" specials).
  • Custom ODs and IDs for vessel manways, heat-exchanger headers, pump and valve flanges.
  • Mixed-alloy builds — 316SS winding with Inconel inner ring, carbon-steel centring with 321 winding, etc.
  • Inner-ring retrofits on Class 150 / 300 duties where filler erosion or buckling is a concern.
  • Production runs for shutdowns and turnarounds — held on file for repeat orders.

How to Place a Custom Order

Send one of the following and we'll quote by return:

  1. The flange standard (ASME B16.5 Class 300 6" RF, AS 2129 Table E DN 200, etc.) — we pull dimensions from tables.
  2. A DXF / DWG file — preferred for non-standard ODs and custom inner-ring profiles.
  3. A drawing or PDF with outer diameter, inner diameter, ring thickness, and target flange class.
  4. An old gasket as a physical sample — we measure and draw from it.

Include the service media, operating pressure and temperature, and any fire-safe / sour service requirements if you'd like us to recommend the winding alloy and filler.

Lead Times and Minimum Orders

  • Standard alloys (304SS, 316SS, carbon-steel rings, graphite or PTFE filler): 24–48 hr dispatch on orders placed before 2pm AEST.
  • Exotic alloys (Inconel, Hastelloy, Monel windings): 5–10 working days.
  • Production runs (50+ pieces): lead time quoted on order; we hold winding files for repeat orders.
  • No minimum order — single-piece custom sizes welcome.

Who Uses Our Service

Refinery and petrochemical maintenance shops, mineral processors, power-station turbine teams, water-treatment EPCs, and pump / valve OEMs across Australia and New Zealand. We ship nationally and to NZ via freight partners and overnight where required for site-down situations.

Frequently Asked Questions

No — we wind one-off non-standard sizes for maintenance jobs. Send a flange standard, drawing, DXF, or physical sample and we will quote the same day for single-piece orders as well as production runs.

DXF and DWG are preferred for non-standard ODs and inner-ring profiles. PDF drawings, technical sketches, or photos of an old gasket all work. We can also wind directly from a flange standard reference (ASME B16.5 Class 300 6" RF, AS 2129 Table E DN 200) without a drawing.

For standard alloys — 304SS or 316SS windings, carbon-steel or stainless centring rings, graphite or PTFE filler — orders placed before 2pm AEST ship next business day. Exotic alloys (Inconel 625, Hastelloy C-276, Monel) typically take 5–10 working days. We freight nationally in Australia and to New Zealand via partner carriers.

Yes. Inner rings are mandatory at Class 600 and above per ASME B16.20, but we add them to Class 150 / 300 gaskets on request — typically when the duty involves vacuum service, high-velocity media that could erode the filler, or thermal-cycling that risks inward winding buckling.
